  • Essential Skills Pathway

    • Focused on workers in critical industries earning less than AUD 70,000 annually.
    • Ensures stricter compliance and regulations to combat worker exploitation.

Additional Features:

  • Thresholds for all three pathways will be indexed annually to reflect changes in average weekly earnings.
  • Skills in Demand visa holders will have a clear pathway to permanent residency, with employment periods under approved employers counting towards permanent residency requirements.
  • Workers will have the flexibility to switch employers without affecting their visa status, promoting better job mobility.

2. Streamlining Labour Market Testing (LMT)

The government is committed to simplifying LMT requirements to reduce administrative burdens on employers:

  • December 2023 Update: Employers are no longer required to advertise job openings on the Workforce Australia platform.
  • By late 2024, the validity of LMT evidence will be extended from four to six months, providing more flexibility for employers hiring foreign workers.

3. Simplified Visa System

  • Consolidate and eliminate underutilized visa categories.

  • Standard processing times for Post-Higher Education Work Stream visas will be reduced to 21 calendar days.

9. Regional Migration Priorities
