Victoria's Skilled Migration Program for the 2024-25 period is now officially open, offering pathways for skilled professionals both within Victoria and from overseas to obtain visa nominations. The program includes two primary visa options:
-
Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190): This is a permanent residence visa allowing successful applicants to live and work anywhere in Victoria.
-
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491): This provisional visa is valid for five years, with a pathway to permanent residency after living and working in regional Victoria for at least three years.
To be considered for a Victorian skilled visa nomination, applicants must first submit or update an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Australian Government’s SkillSelect platform. Following this, a Registration of Interest (ROI) must be submitted to Victoria.
For the 2024-25 program, the Australian Government has allocated a total of 5,000 skilled visa nomination places to Victoria, distributed as follows:
- Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190): 3,000 places
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 491): 2,000 places
Victoria’s skilled migration program is highly competitive, and candidates are selected based on a range of factors including their skills, experience, and ability to contribute to Victoria’s economy and community.
Those nominated will have the opportunity to contribute to the state’s growing industries, with a focus on addressing skill shortages in key sectors. The program aims to attract top talent to support Victoria's economic growth and regional development initiatives.
This program is particularly crucial as it helps to fill critical skill gaps across various sectors, enhancing the state’s ability to meet its long-term economic and infrastructure goals. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for skilled migrants to build a future in one of Australia's most dynamic and culturally diverse states.
