New English Requirements for Australia’s 482 Visa
Discover the updated English test requirements and exemptions for Australia’s Subclass 482 visa. Ensure your eligibility and avoid delays in your skilled migration.
If you're planning to apply for the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482), proving your English language ability is a crucial step—unless you're eligible for an exemption. This blog explains the current English language requirements, acceptable test scores, exemptions, and why this matters for your Australian work visa success.
Why English Proficiency Matters for Subclass 482

Better integration into work environments and communities
-
Smoother licensing or registration processes
-
Compliance with visa obligations

English Requirements in the Labour Agreement Stream
If you're applying under the Labour Agreement Stream, English language requirements are defined in the agreement between your employer and the Australian government. Requirements may vary based on the occupation and the industry.
Always confirm with your employer or migration agent if a labour agreement applies to your case and what the English standard is under that agreement.
Why This Matters
Failing to meet the English language requirement can delay or even reject your visa application. With Australia's visa policies becoming more competitive, submitting valid test scores or proving exemption eligibility ensures your application has the best chance of success.
