New Skills Assessment Criteria Announced by VETASSESS for Mathematicians | Australia Immigration Updates

VETASSESS has revised its skills assessment criteria for the ANZSCO occupation of Mathematician, following extensive consultations with the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI). This category now encompasses roles such as Quantitative Analysts, Computational Scientists, and Operations Research Analysts.

Earlier this year, AMSI officially endorsed the updated VETASSESS criteria. Professor Tim Marchant, Institute Director, highlighted the critical shortage of mathematical scientists in various sectors, noting that this demand leads to high salaries. He pointed out that quantitative analysts are especially sought after in the financial sector, while data scientists are in demand across numerous corporate and government entities. Major hubs for these roles include Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Canberra.

Dr. Mamta Chauhan, Executive Director of VETASSESS, expressed gratitude for AMSI's endorsement and advice. She emphasized that the mathematical sciences field is continuously evolving, and it's crucial that the assessment criteria for skilled migration applicants reflect the current and future needs of Australian employers.
