Latest Canberra Matrix Invitation Round | Australia Immigration News
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has issued its latest round of invitations for state nominations, adhering to a fixed number of available nomination places each month, pro-rated against the annual allocation. The invitations are extended to the highest-ranked Canberra Matrix submissions in each occupation, considering several factors including the date and time of submission, occupation cap, and demand.
Key Details of the Invitation Round
Invitation Criteria
The selection cut-off for each occupation is influenced by the remaining monthly allocation and the demand for specific occupations. The higher the demand, the higher the required Matrix score for an invitation. It's important to note that the minimum ranking score is an indication only and does not guarantee an invitation. Additionally, invitations will not be issued to those with an active application in the system or to those who have previously received ACT nomination.
Prioritization of Critical Sectors
Submissions for occupations in critical sectors may receive prioritization. However, personal circumstances such as visa expiry dates or changes in circumstances (including critical birthdays) will not influence the prioritization or issuance of invitations.

Background and Implications
The Canberra Matrix is a key tool in the ACT's nomination process, designed to manage the demand and ensure that the highest-ranked applicants receive invitations. The system aims to attract skilled migrants who can contribute to the territory’s economic and social development. Critical skill occupations are given priority to address immediate labor market needs.
The recent round reflects the ACT’s ongoing strategy to balance the intake of skilled migrants while maintaining flexibility to adjust to changing economic conditions. The prioritization of small business owners, 457/482 visa holders, and critical skill occupations highlights the territory’s focus on filling skill shortages and supporting local business growth.
The 21 May 2024 invitation round under the Canberra Matrix showcases the ACT’s methodical approach to state nominations, ensuring a balanced and demand-driven selection process. As the demand for skilled migrants continues to evolve, the ACT remains committed to attracting the best talent to support its economic and social objectives.
