10 New Tech Occupations Added to Australia's ACS Assessments

Australia is on track to require 1.3 million highly skilled technology professionals by 2030. In alignment with the Department of Home Affairs' Skills in Demand visa and the Core Skills Occupations List (CSOL), the Australian Computer Society (ACS) has significantly expanded its scope for assessing ICT-related occupations.
Key Highlights of the Expansion
- Increased Occupation Scope: The ACS assessment portfolio now includes 35 occupations, up from 25. This marks the most substantial expansion in over a decade, with 10 new roles added:
- 224114: Data Analyst
- 224115: Data Scientist
- 261315: Cyber Security Engineer
- 261316: DevOps Engineer
- 261317: Penetration Tester
- 262114: Cyber Governance Risk and Compliance Specialist
- 262115: Cyber Security Advice and Assessment Specialist
- 262116: Cyber Security Analyst
- 262117: Cyber Security Architect
- 262118: Cyber Security Operations Coordinator
This expansion underscores ACS’s commitment to supporting Australia’s growing demand for critical cyber security skills and advanced technological expertise.
Implementation Timeline and Changes

System Updates: ACS is preparing its platforms and assessment processes for the additional ANZSCO codes. These updates will be live from Wednesday, 15 January 2025.

Assessment Pathways: Agents and applicants will continue using established pathways, including:
- Post-Australian Studies (PAS)
- General Skills
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Additionally, ACS will now accept optional vendor certifications in specialised fields, such as cyber security and DevOps, to complement qualifications and work experience.

Office Closure and Processing Timelines
The ACS offices will be closed for the holiday season from Friday, 20 December 2024 (noon AEDT) and will reopen on Monday, 6 January 2025. Applicants should plan for processing delays of up to four additional weeks in the new year.
